After dispatching MLS outfit the San Jose Earthquakes, Atletico Madrid travel south of the border to face another former champion in the form of Club America. "We're thrilled to participate in a major tournament as we prepare for what will be a demanding season," he said (via Inside Spanish Football). "We're facing a historic team in one of the best stadiums in the world. It'll be an amazing event."
When asked about his club's chances to repeat last year's success, Gabi added: "It's going to be hard to be repeat what we achieved last season because Barcelona and Real Madrid have bigger budgets, are spending more on players and have great squads. We will supplement our squad with effort and enthusiasm. Achieving the double will be difficult, but we won't give up on anything."
Atletico Madrid will look to put that grit synonymous with their play on stage this evening.
