Mexico National Team: Guillermo Ochoa Transferring To Malaga To Replace Willy Caballero?

It only took one stellar World Cup performance for Guillermo Ochoa to see out his dream. Per Spanish outlet AS, the Mexican goalkeeper is in Spain to complete his physical tests and sign a contract with Malaga after weeks of negotiations.

He will serve as a direct replacement for Willy Caballero, who recently joined Premier League side Manchester City.

Following a heart stopping performance against Brazil in the 2014 World Cup, Ochoa's talents weren't just heralded. According to his agent, they were highly sought after by a myriad of clubs. "Many clubs are interested in my client," he said (via the Mirror). "But we still have not received any concrete offers. It is normal that many clubs will be interested in him after he played so well at the World Cup."

In the end, it was Malaga who were able to obtain his services.

Ochoa made 37 appearances for French outfit Ajaccio last season, conceding an average of 1.92 goals per match. His modest 1.57 saves per goal saw a significant jump in Brazil, with the 29-year-old averaging three saves for every goal conceded. Of the three goals he did allow in the World Cup, only one came from the run of play.

In Ochoa, Malaga have secured a reliable shot-stopper that will allow them to improve on last year's 11th-place finish.
