Li Na Latest News: Chinese Star Pulls Out of U.S. Open [VIDEO]

World number two Li Na won't be participating in the upcoming U.S. Open due to a knee injury that has been bugging the Chinese star.

In fact, Li will also not be participating in two other tennis tournaments in Montreal and Cincinnati scheduled over the next two weeks to give her body some rest.

Li broke the news on her Facebook account, where she wrote about her knee injury, via AP: "It is just not where I need it to be in order to play at the highest level." She added that her medical team has advised her to take some time off to rest her knee.

Although Li did not specify which knee is injured, she played at Wimbledon with her right knee taped up.

AP also got confirmation from the U.S. Tennis Association that Li has told them about her withdrawal from the U.S. Open, which will kick off on August 25.

Li had just won the Australian Open last January, marking her second major title triumph after winning the 2011 French Open. But she has lost the past two majors in disappointing fashion, which could be due to her nagging injury. She bowed out in the third round at Wimbledon and lost in the first round of the French Open to a player ranked 103rd in the world.

She added that she could go back on the court this fall in Wuhan and Beijing, where she has been spending time after her Wimbledon setback.
