Toronto Raptors Rumors: Drake Fine Could Have Been Rescinded If Team Fired Rapper? [VIDEO]

The NBA fined the Toronto Raptors $25,000 due to team ambassador and star rapper Drake’s tampering with Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant, but the NBA also offered the Raptors a way out of the fine.

According to Cathal Kelly of of The Globe and Mail, the Raptors were given the option to strip Drake of his title to get themselves out of the fine. The team refused to fire Drake from his position and decided to pay the fine.

“[Raptors officials] refused to address a key detail – that the NBA offered to drop the tampering fine if the team agreed to strip Drake of his title. The Raptors apparently refused.”

The Raptors’ decision isn't shocking considering how polarizing the Canadian rapper can be for the franchise. Drake has been an active ambassador for the team and his latest actions were to give them a chance at signing the next big free agent in the NBA.

Drake took a moment to address Kevin Durant at one his concerts that the Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star was attending and also got the crowd to join in.

“You know, my brother [Oklahoma City Thunder star] Kevin Durant was kind enough to come to the show tonight and watch us,” Drake said. “I just want him to see what would happen if he came to play in Toronto. Let him know what would happen.”

The crowd then broke into a frenzy of cheers and Durant seemed to enjoy the sentiment, but then the NBA dropped the hammer on the team.

Durant has been linked to the Washington Wizards when he is a free agent in 2016, but until then the rumor mill continues to spin.
