Derrick Rose Injury Update: Knee Soreness Creeps In, D-Rose Sits Out Team USA Practice; Status For Game vs. Dominican Republic [VIDEO]

Derrick Rose has been flashing explosiveness on the court during Team USA scrimmages and exhibitions as they gear up for the 2014 World Cup. Rose is expected to be a key cog for this group now after injuries and defections depleted the roster.

Rose, though, is coming off a torn ACL followed by a torn meniscus and had to sit out practice this week because of "knee soreness."

Anthony Davis getting taller, wingspan lengthening?

"We're gonna give him a couple days off because he's been going so hard," Team USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski said.

USA Basketball chairman Bryan Colangelo weighed in on the Rose situation as well, and expressed calm. "This was a good time for him to get rest," Colangelo told ESPN.com on Tuesday. "He still thinks he needs a little bit of rest.

"At this point, it doesn't really matter much, but there's a rule -- unless Coach changed it -- that if you don't practice the day before, then it's hard to start the next game. But it doesn't mean anything."

Despite feeling some aches, Rose said he expects to be on the court Wednesday vs. the Dominican Republic.

"Hopefully I am. I didn't do anything today. I just got treatment and today is just really another rest day. I'm really, really happy with where I am right now as far as health-wise. I'm just trying to take my time and get rest. We have a long schedule ahead of us, and I'm just trying to get as much rest as possible."

With Paul George out after sustaining a broken leg in a scrimmage, and Kevin Durant withdrawing from the team soon after, Rose could find himself starting alongside Stephen Curry. Last week he notched seven points in 24 minutes of action.
