According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, Watt has made it known to the Texans that he wants a new contract with the team, but will not sit out of team activities to get it.

Watt is the latest player from the 2011 NFL draft class to seek a new deal; 2011 was the first season that rookie salary wages started to be capped. Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports spoke with Watt and he expressed his feelings toward the status of his draft class.

Raiders to Return to LA in 2016?

“It's been great to see some of these [2011] guys get deals, because it shows that their teams appreciate what work they put in. You work extremely hard in this league to do as well as you can and hopefully earn that respect and to earn that appreciation.

I hope that I've worked hard enough and hopefully I've put myself in a situation where I can be shown some of the same appreciation. Hopefully they feel I've outplayed my current contract, but the end of the day, we're paid to play football. If I got paid a little more, I wouldn't be terribly upset.”

Watt has graded out as the best 3-4 defensive end in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus and it isn't even close. Watt is set to make $1.9 million this season and just under $7 million in 2015.

Watt is a two-time Pro Bowler, a two-time NFL All-Pro and the 2012 NFL AP Defensive Player of the Year after registering 20.5 sacks and 16 pass deflections for the Texans.
