Real Madrid Transfer News: Angel Di Maria Rejects Contract Offer, Tells Club He Wants To Leave

The future of Angel Di Maria no longer appears to be at Real Madrid, with the Argentine rejecting a contract extension from the club and submitting a formal transfer request. In a press conference with the Spanish press, manager Carlo Ancelotti made the desires of his Argentine winger publically known.

"Di Maria asked to go in the summer and has rejected an offer from the club," he said at a news conference (via BBC). "The player has to look for a solution. If when the transfer market closes he's still here, he will work with us like last season and there will be no problem."

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are the two widely reported clubs interested in obtaining his services.

Ancelotti went on to divulge the current status of Sami Khedira as well, adding: "Khedira's situation is different [than Di Maria's] because he has just a year left on his contract and has rejected a new one. We will see what happens, but his situation is different because he has not asked to leave."

With Xabi Alonso, Luka Modric, Asier Illarramendi and Toni Kroos available to handle the defensive duties in the midfield, Khedira's departure wouldn't serve as news for the European champions. The same cannot be said for Di Maria. A lack of width would be present should the 26-year-old depart the Santiago Bernabeu, especially with a recent injury to Cristiano Ronaldo (muscle strain).

Tactically, Angel Di Maria is the one player Real Madrid cannot afford to sell.
