Barcelona was handed a two-window transfer ban for breaching the rules of under-18 player transfers. The club will appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after FIFA confirmed the embargo on Thursday. The news was made public following a statement (via the Guardian) from football's governing body.

"FC Barcelona is to serve a transfer ban which will see the club prevented from registering any players at both national and international level for two complete and consecutive transfer periods, starting with the next registration period [January 2015]."

The ban was married with a 450,000 Swiss francs fine. The Spanish FA was fined an additional 500,000 Swiss francs and given a year to regularize the existing system concerning the international transfer of minors in football.

A forward-thinking Barcelona, however, has concocted a long-term plan to remain competitive in the modern era of football transfers.
