It has been no secret that Roman Reigns is going to be pushed as the next big thing in the WWE, but those waiting to see him win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship may have to wait several months.

There were some rumors before the Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena rematch for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship was announced for Night of Champions on Sept. 21 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville that Reigns may get in the title hunt, but that is not the case.

Lesnar dominated Cena at SummerSlam as a way to build him up as an unstoppable monster and to show Cena's knack to never give up, and the two will go head-to-head one more time next month. As for Reigns, the WWE is planning on a slow build to the main event level for him.

Report: Daniel Bryan's Need For Tommy John Surgery Untrue

Wrestlingheadlines.com reports that the notion backstage is that Reigns will not feud with Lesnar over the belt this year if he retains at Night of Champions as the WWE plans to keep Reigns out of the title picture until WrestleMania 31, where he is likely to win the gold.

Reigns is still seen as the "chosen one" backstage, but the WWE wants to slowly elevate him to the main event level and a loss to Lesnar right now for the title would be seen as damning to his future, so the company is keeping them apart.

Reigns scored a victory over Randy Orton at SummerSlam as a way to continue to raise the stock in him and a rematch is likely between the two at Night of Champions.

The WWE appears to be saving a Reigns title win for WrestleMania 31 as it will have the most impact and create a huge WrestleMania Moment for Reigns and the company as a whole to see him achieve the ultimate dream at the biggest show of the year.

There have been reports for a while now that Reigns is likely to win the Royal Rumble match in January -- reportedly by last eliminating former Shield teammates Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins -- and go on to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 31 live from brand new Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

It is rumored that Reigns will defeat Lesnar to accomplish the feat, but it remains to be seen if Lesnar will lose the title then come back around Royal Rumble time and win it back due to his part-time status.

WrestleMania 31 is a long way away, but it appears as though it could be the defining night in Reigns' career.
