While Geno Smith and Michael Vick are battling for the Jets' starting quarterback job Eli Manning is going to be under the spotlight as well in this pivotal preseason game. Manning hasn't been able to smoothly run the Giants' new West Coast offense.

According to The New York Daily News, there are several people around the NFL who don't think Manning's ever going to excel at it either.

"I don't see him as a quick-trigger West Coast guy," said one NFC personnel man. "It (this season) is going to be interesting, because I see him as a deep pocket passer."

Victor Cruz, Manning's No. 1 wide receiver, talked to The Daily News about his penchant for throwing great deep passes. "He's just got a knack for it," Cruz said.

"I think it's rare to have a guy to throw the deep ball to so many different guys and be as effective as he has."

As for the Jets' situation, no starter has been declared but Geno Smith appears to be well ahead of the veteran Vick. Despite his experience, and opening the season last year as the starter for the Eagles, Vick spoke well of his role as a backup if that's how the battle turns out.

"The last five years I spent in Philly, I had some great years and played in some great games and went through a lot. Now it's an opportunity for me to refresh myself and take a step back away from the game," Vick said.

"I don't want that. It's just -- I'm kind of relishing the moment that I'm in right now. I am not required to have to do a lot. Preserving my body right now is very important to me, and making sure I can make a strong push late in my career in case I am needed."
