U.S. Open 2014: Andy Murray Expects Better Showing Compared to Last Year [VIDEO]

Andy Murray believes he stands a better chance at faring well in the U. S. Open compared to last year and perhaps end his year-long grand slam drought.

"I feel good," he said on Saturday via AFP. "I have had a great practice week, had good fun on the court, enjoyed it, and worked hard."

Last year, Murray battled back issues as he failed to defend his U. S. Open title he won in 2012, his first ever grand slam. He was hounded by the injury at the start of the year, but Murray says he is fit to win another title.

"Physically I'm better prepared than I was for the other Slams," he said. "I got my best training block I have had since before Wimbledon last year down in Miami. Trained hard and, yeah, I feel ready."

The eighth-seeded Murray is confident even as he faces the prospect of meeting world number one and top seed Novak Djokovic if he is to advance to the semifinals.

Perhaps he can get some inspiration from watching golfer Rory McIlroy and the United States men's basketball team. Murray spent his a few days seeing these athletes in action.

"It was fun," he said. "I have never been to watch golf live before. For a first experience, watching the best player in the world was a pretty good experience.I guess it's like pretty much any sport -- when you watch them up close, it's impressive."

Murray faces Robin Haase of Netherlands in the first round of the tournament.
