Real Madrid Transfer News: Radamel Falcao Transfer Talks Planned At UEFA Champions League Draw

The transfer saga for Radamel Falcao is prepared to take another turn on Thursday. Per Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (via his official website), representatives from Real Madrid will use the UEFA Champions League group stage draw to hold talks with the Monaco striker. With just four days remaining in the transfer window, the time to secure his services is now.

Juventus are also said to be monitoring the situation.

The report is in direct contrast to an earlier promise from Carlo Ancelotti. Ahead of a friendly against Fiorentina, the Real Madrid boss was adamant that his club will make no further signings this summer. "It's done," Ancelotti said (via AS). "We're not making any more signings."

There were, however, more exits.

Angel Di Maria's departure to Manchester United was quickly followed by a shock exit from Xabi Alonso. The 32-year-old joined Bayern Munich for a reported £8 million transfer fee, opening midfield opportunities for Toni Kroos and Asier Illarramendi. The revenue generated from their moves will also provide president Florentino Perez what he needs to acquire a genuine replacement for Karim Benzema.

The 26-year-old opened his 2014 account in Real Madrid's 2-0 victory over Cordoba on Monday, but has failed to live up to the role bestowed upon him by Ancelotti. As the club's No. 9, Benzema finished with a modest 17 goals last season and has just one 20-goal season for the Galacticos. By comparison, before joining AS Monaco, Falcao capped off his last two seasons in the Spanish Capital with a combined 52 goals.

With that kind of productivity, it would behoove Real Madrid to finalize a deal on Thursday.
