The quarterfinals are set in New York City as No. 1 Serena Williams and No. 10 Caroline Wozniacki remain the only players in the top 10 to make it this far in the tournament.
Williams topped Kaia Kanepi 6-3, 6-3 and clinched her first quarterfinal appearance in a mjaor tournament this year. Williams showed her relief in an on-court interview after the victory.
"I finally made a quarterfinal this year!" Williams said "I think I felt it in my service game. I'm like, 'Can I please make it to a Grand Slam quarters this year?' “
Tuesday will see two of the quarterfinal matches take place as Belinda Bencic will play Shuai Peng at noon and Wozniacki will face No. 13 Sara Errani at 7:00 p.m.
