Baylor takes on the Demons of Northwestern State as the Bears look to go 2-0 on the season, but they will likely be without star quarterback Bryce Petty.

Petty, who suffered two broken bones in his back, spoke about his status this weekend and said that he didn't decide to come back to school to sit on the sidelines.

"I didn't come back to sit again on the sidelines and watch. Every game is important and Northwestern State is important to me," Petty said Tuesday. "So I want to be out there. ... I'll be all right. We'll be good.”

Petty said that there isn’t anything that can be done about the injury and that all it needs is time.

"There's not a whole lot you can do for it. It's kind of like a pinkie finger, you're not going to get surgery on it or anything like that," Petty said. "You just kind of brace it up and fight through it.”

Petty is the reigning Big 12 offensive player of the year and is seen as a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft. Baylor crushed SMU 45-0 last weekend, but lost Petty in the process.

Northwestern State put together 493 yards of total offensive, but allowed 20 unanswered points to end the game in a 34-27 loss to Missouri State.

Baylor leads the all-time series with Northwestern State 3-0 and has outscored the Demons 166-29 in those games.
