Clay Matthews Extension: Packers Lock Up Linebacker For Five Years

The Green Bay Packers and linebacker Clay Matthews agreed to an extension on Wednesday, according to Fox Sports. Terms of the extension weren't disclosed by the team, but Fox Sports reported that the extension is for five years and averages "a bit north" of $13 million per season.
The 26-year-old linebacker tweeted two pictures of himself signing the contract before it was officially announced by the team. Matthews tweeted: "Trivial amongst the recent tragic news, but happy to continue my career in Green Bay!"

Matthews has 42.5 sacks in four seasons since joining the Packers, including 13 last season. He has a total of 204 tackles, seven forced fumbles and four interceptions in 58 career games since being drafted 26th overall in the 2009 draft out of USC.
The Packers are also working on an extension for Aaron Rodgers, with sources telling ESPN.com the deal will make the quarterback the highest-paid player in NFL history.
