Detroit Detroit Pistons Rumors: Greg Monroe Would Have Turned Down Max Deal from Pistons; Celtics, Rockets Interested? [VIDEO]

Pistons big man Greg Monroe has signed his restricted free agent offer sheet and will play for Detroit for the 2014-15. The question now remains what will the Pistons do with Monroe, considering he has made it clear he is leaning toward leaving the Motor City?

According to the USA Today, Monroe just wants to control his own destiny and they also believe that he would have turned down a max contract from the Pistons had it been offered.

T-Wolves Exploring Nikola Pekovic, Ricky Rubio Trade?

“Monroe and the Pistons could not agree on an extension, and even if the Pistons had offered Monroe a max contract, there was a strong chance Monroe would’ve declined. In four seasons with Detroit, Monroe has played for four coaches, and the Pistons have not won more than 30 games in any of those seasons.

Monroe’s representatives steered other teams from presenting Monroe with an offer sheet because they didn’t want the Pistons to match and keep Monroe for another four seasons. Now, Monroe will have freedom to pick his next team, and that’s what he wanted: control of his future.”

Many believe that Monroe will depart Detroit after this season so the Pistons could have to look into trading the big man before this season’s trade deadline. The Pistons are already looking to deal forward Josh Smith, but Monroe is a much more attractive option.

The Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards and Boston Celtics have all been tied to Monroe at some point, but if it came down to trade, look for the Celtics to be the favorite. The Celtics have a problem with point guard Rajon Rondo and the Pistons have an issue with Monroe, maybe the two teams could find some common ground on a deal.

Monroe has averaged 14.0 points and 9.0 rebound in four seasons with the Pistons and has only missed three games in his entire career.
