Manchester United were able to acquire the services of striker Radamel Falcao during the summer transfer window, just not permanently. The 28-year-old moved to Old Trafford on a temporary loan from French outfit AS Monaco. The move will be permanent with just a modicum of productivity.
According to Calciomercato (via Goal Transfer Talk), Falcao's future will remain in Manchester after he makes 15 appearances and contributes a minimum of five goals to the Red Devils. His wages will reportedly be £11.2 million after tax, with an additional £2.4 million in bonuses.
The incentives to perform are there. At his unveiling, the Colombian shared a keen interest to remain at United for years to come.
"I hope to make history in this club," Falcao said (via the Guardian). "When I was at Porto and Atlético Madrid, I always wanted to improve and I dreamed about playing in a team like this, and now I want to stay here for many years."
Falcao suffered a ligament tear in his knee in late January, forcing him to miss the 2014 World Cup. Fully recovered, the striker anticipates to improve on his already rising form. "I feel well," he added. "I started to play two months ago with Monaco and I've improved a lot in the last month. I have scored goals [three in 217 minutes], which is important to strikers, and I'm confident with my physical form. I am comfortable with my knee."
Being comfortable with one's own body is one thing. Being comfortable with a manager's tactics is another. With an embarrassment of riches at the forward position, Falcao must learn to play alongside the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie if he hopes to trigger a permanent transfer to Manchester United.
