Stanton was struck in the face last Thursday by an 88 mph fastball from Brewers starter Mike Fiers during the fifth inning of Milwaukee's 4-2 victory. The pitch struck Stanton under his left eye, causing him to fall to the ground and he suffered facial lacerations and fractures along with dental damage as a result.

Stanton was carted off the field after getting hit and his father was in attendance.

ESPN reports that Stanton has doctors appointments scheduled for Thursday, which will provide manager Mike Williams and the rest of the team an idea of when the slugger can be expected back.

Redmond was very upset when the hit-by-pitch first happened.

"We've lost our MVP," the skipper told reporters last week. "It doesn't look good."

Stanton is a National League MVP candidate this season as he leads the NL with 37 homers and is second in the league with 105 RBI. Stanton is also first in the NL in total bases (299), slugging percentage (.555), OPS (.950) and walks (94) while ranking third in on-base percentage (.395).

The Marlins are 2-3 since losing Stanton in the fifth inning of Thursday's game and hung his jersey in the dugout during their 6-5 road win against the New York Mets Monday night at Citi Field.

Miami (73-76) is six games out of the final wild-card spot in the NL that is currently held by the Pittsburgh Pirates (79-70) while the Milwaukee Brewers (78-72) and Atlanta Braves (75-75) are also ahead of them.
