The company revealed at Night of Champions that Reigns will not return for several months which puts his huge push in question going forward.

There were reported plans that he would win the Royal Rumble match in 2015 and go onto face Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 31 in March, but that is now in doubt.

Reigns woke up on Saturday with abdominal pains and was advised by WWE doctors to go to the hospital where it was later determined he needed surgery. He was expected to be sidelined for 4-6 weeks originally, but now it seems as though the timetable is much longer.

Reigns tweeted Sunday morning to thank his fans for their support.

"Thank you everyone for your kind words, support and prayers!! I'm hurting right now but it's great to know good people have my back!!" Reigns wrote.

A video surfaced online of Reigns addressing his fans from his hospital bed, explaining what happened.

"Yesterday I was here in Nashville promoting Night of Champions and my match against Seth Rollins. I was lying in bed and all of a sudden I felt a really sharp pain right below my belly button in my bladder region," Reigns said. "Tried to gut it out but it just kept getting worse so I ended up calling 911. They sent an ambulance and once I got to the hospital, the doctor said I had a hernia and I needed to go into emergency surgery and here I am now."

It remains to be seen how Reigns' injury will affect the projected WWE storylines for the rest of 2014 and into 2015, but it appears as though he could be sidelined for a significant amount of time.
