Auburn Football Scandal: Tigers' AD Says Report Was 'Clearly Flawed'

Auburn has refuted in whole an online report that earlier this month accused players and coaches on the 2011 national championship football team of academic fraud and bribery on Monday, according to ESPN.com. Citing an internal review that was prompted by the report, athletic director Jay Jacobs said in a statement released by the program to ESPN that the allegations were serious enough to prompt an investigation but that it had found the story to be inaccurate and full of "misrepresentations."

"As the facts demonstrate, the article is clearly flawed," Jacobs said in the statement. "I want you to know that I will always act on the basis of facts. I will continue to fight for Auburn University, and I will continue to defend this great institution against such attacks."

Auburn's compliance department and internal auditors conducted the academic portion of the investigation. Among the actions taken were interviewing professors and reviewing computer documents, a person familiar with the process told ESPN's Joe Schad.
