Chivas Guadalajara News: Nestor De La Torre Named President, Chepo de la Torre Possible Candidate To Replace Carlos Bustos

The professional soap opera that is Chivas Guadalajara added another chapter on Friday, with Nestor De La Torre returning to the club in a newly defined role. The former director of Mexican soccer was named club president by owner Jorge Vergara and given full control of operations (via Ferriz MX). His first order of business: Find a replacement for recently resigned Carlos Bustos.

Saving his dignity, Bustos stepped down from his position after failing to return the Goats to prominence, seeing them 15th in the league table on 10 points from 10 games. The club is still in danger of being relegated to Mexico's second division. There's also a small matter of Sunday's Clasico Tapatio with Atlas, who currently sit third in the league table with 21 points.

An embarrassing defeat to a toughened arch rival is in order for Guadalajara.

Per Mexican outlet Press Port, Ramon Morales will be the interim coach for the upcoming encounter. A permanent replacement is said to announced next week.

According to Nestor de la Torre, said replacement could potentially be his own brother, Jose Manuel "Chepo" de la Torre (via Tom Marshall). The former head coach of the Mexican national team has been without a position since 2013 and was vocal about his desires to return to his former club. In an interview with Javier Alatorre (via Tom Marshall), de la Torre was adamant that "he couldn't turn down Chivas" if they came calling.

Given their current position in the Liga MX table, it's Chivas Guadalajara who wouldn't be able to turn down him. A club starving for stability, not just points, is still one step from finding it.
