Tonight at 9:30 p.m. ET, the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers continue their best-of-five National League Division Series with Game 2 action live from Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. St. Louis looks to take a 2-0 series lead back home with it while Los Angeles will try to bounce back from a disheartening Game 1 loss and tie the series up at home.
Zack Greinke (17-8, 2.79 ERA in the regular season) toes the rubber for the Dodgers while the Cardinals counter with Lance Lynn, who went 15-10 with a 2.74 ERA this past season.
It was a wild night in Los Angeles Friday as Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw was cruising through six innings until the Cardinals exploded offensively in the seventh inning.
St. Louis' offensive onslaught was highlighted by third baseman Matt Carpenter's go-ahead three-run double and outfielder Matt Holliday's three-run homer.
The Dodgers tried to forge a comeback of their own in the ninth inning, but outfielder Yasiel Puig struck out with the tying run on third and the Cardinals took home a 10-9 win.
The game had plenty of other fireworks as the benches cleared after Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina started jawing following Puig being struck by a third inning pitch from Adam Wainwright. Cooler heads prevailed, but the teams have plenty of bad blood and history.
While the Cardinals drew first blood, the team knows it still has two wins to get before it can celebrate advancing.
"We have been very consistent with this," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said after Game 1, according to MLB.com. "It's just one game, no matter what. Not necessarily putting more weight on any particular game, except the one that's right in front of us. That's all we can control."
While it was a tough loss for the Dodgers to swallow, they know that it isn't over yet.
"Like I said, I think a loss is a loss and a win is a win," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly told MLB.com. "This time of year, any time you lose one, it feels like it's an emotional battle. I'm really proud of our guys."
The Cardinals look to take a 2-0 lead on the road while the Dodgers look to tie up the series at home when these teams take the field for NLDS Game 2 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
