New MLS Team In New York: Man City Club Owner Plans Expansion Team In Queens.

Manchester City boss and member of the Abu Dhabi royal family Sheikh Mansour, is ready to be the first owner of the newest team in the MLS, New York FC.

Sheikh Mansour has a record of spending lots of money in the soccer world, which will need to be done in order for this operation to be complete. It will cost $100 million for the expansion fee in addition to a $340 million stadium fee.

New York FC would be play its home games in its own stadium in Flushing, Queens. The plans for the Queens stadium are expected to be finalized soon while the official announcment of the new club is anticipated in mid-summer.

Manchester City will use this new franchise to raise future Premier League stars, after having a hard time developing home-grown talent through their own academies in the last few years.

Mansour is receiving negative feedback from locals, who are opposed to the 13-acre stadium that would need to be built.  Permission is needed from the city council and state legislators so getting New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg on board is the answer to Mansour securing the franchise, which will be the MLS's 20th team.

This is also seen as a commercial benefit, as it would greatly expand the brand awareness of Manchester City in the United States, and increase the impact of Manchester City overall.

Manchester City's goal is to open a group of clubs across the globe, in which players can be switched around.
