Detroit Lions Rumors: Team Holding Calvin Johnson Out Until Week 10? [VIDEO]

The Detroit Lions played very coy when it came to the status of wide receiver Calvin Johnson, but coach Jim Caldwell did not rule out sitting the Pro Bowler past the team’s Week 9 bye week.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the team could sit their best offensive weapon past the bye week as he recovers from a high ankle sprain.

"The fact of the matter is I leave it up to the doctors," Caldwell said. "Those are the professionals. They know exactly what it takes, what can be done.

"Them, in conjunction with Calvin and how he feels, they treat not only symptoms and the situation but also the patient as well, in terms of what he feels. So they'll let us know what's the best avenue to take.”

Coaches are typically more pessimistic about injuries than players, but Caldwell's words are an ominous sign for Johnson's Week 7 status. For now, plan on Johnson missing another game. Megatron's status will be updated no later than Wednesday.”

Johnson missed the Lions' 17-3 victory at the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday and only registered one catch for seven yards the week before. Johnson said on numerous occasions that he would rather rest the ankle and get healthy as opposed to playing and being a decoy for the offense.
