Heavyweight UFC fighter  Cheick Kongo, has received his walking papers from the UFC after not being able to pull out a win in his latest fight against "Big Country" Roy Nelson last Saturday. Kongo, 37, debuted with the organization in 2006, and went 4-2-1 in his last seven fights.

"I am sad to report that Cheick Kongo was released by the UFC today," Halpern posted on Twitter.

Since he joiining the UFC, Kongo has compiled a 11-6-1 record overall while pulling big wins against name fighters such as Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, Matt Mitrione and Pat Barry.

His win over Barry is said to be one of the greatest comebacks in UFC history.

Though he is considered to be one of the staples of the UFC, losses to fighters like Cain Velasquez, Frank Mir and Mark Hunt always kept him from getting title shots, and he constantly seemed to fall short of the number one spot.

His profile and stats have been officially removed from UFC.com.

His management have not said if he would sign with another promotion or look for opportunities outside the octagon.

The only response from Kongo until now was on Twitter, where all he posted was "LOL."
