Chelsea Vs. Basel: Chelsea Reaches Europa League Final

Chelsea has made its way to the Europa League final after beating Swedish FC Basel in the semifinal. The London side beat the Swiss side in both legs of the series, winning 2-1 in Switzerland and winning 3-1 again in Stamford Bridge. The Blues will now take their 5-2 aggregate win to Amsterdam where they will meet Portuguese side Benfica, for the final on the 15th of may.

The Swiss side was setting up what looked like an upset as they netted a shot in the dying seconds of the first half as Mohammed Salah beat the offside to put Basel 1-0 ahead before going into the change rooms.

As the second half started Chelsea showed they meant business, scoring three goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half.

The first came from masked forward Fernando Torres in the 50th minute to tie the score and put them 3-2 on agg. Victor Moses added to the lead when he made up for a defensive mistake and put the Blues up 4-2, and Brasilian International and Chelsea defender David Luiz put the icing on the cake with a 30-yard curler that was unreachable by Basel keeper.

The 10-minute three-goal outburst was the fastest of any major European competition this year.

Frank Lampard came close to equaling Bobby Tambling's top scorer record, but was denied by the post and still needs one goal to reach the 202 mark.
