The WWE and wrestling have had its fair share of creepy wrestlers and outlandish characters, and here on Halloween we'll take a look back at 13 of the spookiest wrestlers to ever lace up their boots and enter the squared circle.
Whether it was vampires, clowns, creatures of the night or just strange individuals, many characters have haunted the wrestling ring over the last few decades.
Here are the Top 13 creepiest wrestlers ever:
13) Repo Man: If anyone were to Trick or Treat at this guy's house, they'd certainly be on the receiving end of a trick. While this guy wasn't quite a ghoul, he was definitely a creep. After the breakup of the once prominent Demolition tag team, the WWE repackaged Smash into a character that repossessed items that belonged to other WWE Superstars. Perhaps his great repossession took place when he stole the hat of "Macho Man" Randy Savage on Monday Night RAW in January of 1993. The Repo Man also made an appearance eight years later during the Gimmick Battle Royal at WrestleMania X-7.
12) Kamala: One of the creepiest characters to ever enter a wrestling ring was the "Ugandan Giant" Kamala, who chanted and jumped around, but never spoke full sentences. Adorned with frightening face paint and images of the moon and stars on his chest, Kamala was a force to be reckoned with. In the WWE, he had a prominent feud with The Undertaker in 1992 that led to a Casket Match between the pair at Survivor Series.
11) Zodiac: Ed Leslie had many gimmicks throughout the years and is mostly known for his Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake moniker, but one of his gimmicks was the Zodiac. The Zodiac wore black and white face paint and was a part of the Dungeon of Doom feuding with Hulk Hogan. Zodiac eventually turned on the Dungeon in favor of "The Hulkster" after haunting him for a few months.
10) Vampiro: This character made its way through several different promotions over the years, but is perhaps most notable for his time in WCW from 1998-2000. In June of 1998, Vampiro surfaced in WCW and eventually became a Tag Team Champion while sucking the blood of the competition.
9) Viscera: The late Nelson Frazier Jr. passed away earlier this year and while he had many gimmicks throughout his wrestling career, a lot of people know him for his Viscera character that haunted the WWE roster in 1999. Viscera was a part of The Undertaker's Ministry of Darkness and weighing in at nearly 500 pounds, he was a force in that group. Viscera was scary not only because of his size, but also because his eyes had no color and just his pupils showed.
8) Papa Shango: Charles Wright is another person with myriad gimmicks during the course of his career, but the short-lived Papa Shango gimmick is what may keep some fans up on Halloween night. Wright debuted in the WWE as Papa Shango, a voodoo practitioner that casted spells on his opponents. In the ring, Wright's stint as Papa Shango didn't last long, but it did include a hilarious feud with the late Ultimate Warrior that saw Shango cast spells on the future WWE Hall of Famer. The spells included Warrior convulsing uncontrollably, vomiting in different colors and bleeding out of nowhere. Wright also missed his cue as Papa Shango at WrestleMania VIII, causing Sid and Hulk Hogan to improvise the ending to their match due to him being late to interfere and cause a DQ.
7) Doink The Clown: While Doink would later become a goofy babyface character, the origins of his stint in the WWE were dark and compelling. Doink debuted in late 1992 as a disturbed clown who sought joy from the misery of others and got a kick out of his own pranks. The character was dark and different from what the WWE was doing at the time. Doink had a feud with Crush during his time as a heel, which led to a mysterious second Doink "illusion" at WrestleMania IX in 1993. Doink eventually was turned face, but his greatest character development occurred when he was a heel.
6) Gangrel: The WWE had a vampire of its own in 1999 as Gangrel debuted with fangs and all along with plans to start a new movement within the WWE. Gangrel is also instrumental in the jumping-off points of Edge and Christian's careers as the trio started off together as The Brood. Unfortunately for Gangrel, Edge would go on to have a Hall of Fame career and Christian would win multiple World Heavyweight Championships while the vampire and leader of the Brood would be out of the company by 2001.
5) The Boogeyman: "I'm the Boogeyman and I'm coming to get ya," Martin Wright would yell while portraying The Boogeyman in the WWE from 2005-09. This guy fits in on Halloween as one of the creepiest characters as he came out with black and red face paint on, broke a clock over his head and proceeded to eat worms. He never won gold in the WWE, but this ghoulish freak did pick up a victory over Booker T and Sharmell at WrestleMania 22.
4) Mankind: While Mick Foley has had many faces and characters throughout the years, his original run as Mankind was something that was fresh and unique. In a time when the WWE was trying to distance itself from cartoonish gimmicks, Foley debuted as Mankind -- an actual character -- with a tortured past. Mankind started laying down some of the best promos in the company which included him pulling his own hair out of his head due to being a tortured soul. Upon his arrival in 1996, he engaged in a feud with The Undertaker that became one of the best rivalries of the year. Foley would go on to evolve the character and other characters such as Dude Love and Cactus Jack through the years, but it wouldn't have been possible without the origins of the demented Mankind.
3) Abdullah The Butcher: With a nickname like "The Butcher" and his forehead aligned with scars, Abdullah is a perfect choice for one of the spookiest wrestlers ever. Abdullah, who got his start in 1958, would turn the ring into a Halloween style haunted house with his bloody and hardcore matches where he would punish his opponents with any weapon that he could find.
2) Kane: Before he became Corporate Kane, Glen Jacobs' "Kane" character was seen as the most sinister and evil in the history of the WWE. Paul Bearer began building up toward Kane's debut by telling The Undertaker his brother was still alive and providing background information of Kane surviving a fire that The Undertaker's parents died in. Bearer spent months teasing the arrival of Kane and at Badd Blood 1997, he finally made his debut during The Undertaker's Hell in a Cell match with Shawn Michaels. Kane tombstoned his brother and caused him to lose the match, setting up a storyline that would last through 1998's WrestleMania XIV. 17 years later, Kane is still going strong in the WWE, though he isn't quite as spooky.
1) The Undertaker: On Halloween, there is nothing scarier than the dead man and his creatures of the night. The Undertaker has been a part of WWE lore for over two decades and is one of the creepiest characters while he is highly regarded as a wrestling legend. 'Taker made his debut in 1990 shortly after Halloween at the Survivor Series. 'Taker would soon hook up with Paul Bearer to form one of the WWE's spookiest duos. The Undertaker would win his first WWE Championship just a year later at Survivor Series 1991 by defeating Hulk Hogan in what was the first stamp on a memorable career. 'Taker would go on to rack up different accomplishments in the WWE and cemented his legacy with a memorable unbeaten streak at WrestleMania that was broken in April by Brock Lesnar. Undertaker is a sure-fire Hall of Famer and undoubtedly the spookiest character to ever grace a wrestling ring.
