June Steenkamp Says Detective Told Her Case Against Oscar Pistorius 'Open and Shut' [VIDEO]

At the very least, the book that Reeva Steenkamp's mother wrote about Reeva and Oscar Pistorius should be a financial benefit to the cash-strapped parents who were compelled to take money from Pistorius after he shot and killed her.

The Guardian interviewed June Steenkamp, who is on the media tour talking about her soon-to-be published book, "Reeva, A Mother's Story."

Reeva Steenkamp's parents are preparing for a contentious meeting with Oscar Pistorius

Excerpts from the book from June that Reeva never had sex with Pistorius and was ready to leave him on the night she was shot already have been leaked.

Now, she adds another chapter about the horrific phone call she received on Valentine's Day, 2013, when the police called to inform the family what had happened to the 29-year-old Reeva.

Reeva Steenkamp planned to leave Oscar Pistorius on the night he shot her, her mother says

The police detective who called June Steenkamp to inform her that her daughter had been shot and killed told the mother that the tragedy appeared to be an "open-and-shut" case against Pistorius.

Pistorius, the double-amputee Olympic sprinter and Reeva's boyfriend, shot her four times through their bathroom door in the early morning hours, killing her. Pistorius would later testify that he thought she was an intruder.

The detective, who introduced himself to June as Hilton Botha, called shortly after Steenkamp died:

"Hello, is that June Steenkamp?"

"Yes."

"Do you have a daughter, Reeva?"

"Yes."

"There has been a terrible accident."

"What kind of accident?"

"Your daughter has been shot."

(The Guardian reported there was a pause).

"You'd better tell me RIGHT NOW if she's dead or alive."

"I'm sorry. I'm afraid she has passed on."

Botha told June Steenkamp that he thought it appeared to be an "open-and-shut case", adding: "There were only two people present - your daughter and Oscar with the gun."

Reeva Steenkamp and Pistorius had been dating three months, starting in November, 2012. June Steenkamp says she never met Pistorius before the tragedy but said her daughter told her that she and Pistorius "were fighting a lot."

"She'd only known him a short time and was beginning to think they were incompatible, and I think that night she was going to leave. They had a fight, something went horribly wrong. I don't know what it was; I can't possibly know. Only Oscar knows, and Reeva knows, and she's not here anymore."

Steenkamp still has not explained whether Steenkamp was, in fact, living with Pistorius - as media reports have suggested - or why she was either living with him or spending nights with him if they were never intimate.

Perhaps, she is saving that for her book readers?
