The Colorado Rockies are listening to offers for shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, who are both coming off of season-ending injuries in 2014.
MLB.com reports that new general manager Jeff Bridich is looking at all options heading into the 2015 season and is listening to offers on the two oft-injured stars. Tulowitzki is coming off of surgery on his left hip labrum while Gonzalez underwent a left knee operation in August.
Colorado is reportedly looking to shore up its rotation, and could very well trade one or both of the players if the right offer should come about this offseason.
The Rockies have endured four straight losing seasons and haven't made the playoffs in five seasons while not finishing above third place since 2009. Colorado has been looking to rebuild in order to end the drought, but it remains to be seen if they'll pull the trigger on a deal involving Tulowitzki or Gonzalez.
Tulowitzki, 30, put up MVP-caliber numbers before his injury this season and ranked in the top 5 in many offensive categories before getting hurt. Tulo hit .240 with 21 homers and 52 RBI in just 91 games, but he is owed $118 million through 2020.
The Coors Field advantage also can't be overstated. Tulowitzki hit .417/.497/.748 at home with 14 homers and 35 RBI last season while away from home he was batting .257/.384/.447 with seven long-balls and 17 RBI before the injury.
Tulowitzki has stated he is tired of losing and he wouldn't be opposed to a trade.
Gonzalez, 29, will make $85 million through the 2018 and hasn't reached 140 games played since 2010 due to various injuries. Prior to his latest set-back, Gonzalez was batting just .238 through 70 games with 11 homers and 38 RBI.
Gonzalez's numbers were also favorable at Coors Field when placed against his road numbers.
Gonzalez hit .336/.376/.569 at home last season and .160/.224/.319 on the road. He had one more road homer (six) than he did at home (five), but his 24 RBI in Colorado trumped his 14 RBI elsewhere.
It is possible that the Rockies will pull off a trade of their franchise shortstop in Tulowitzki and slugging outfielder in Gonzalez, but a team taking on the deal could be taking a big risk.
