ESPN vs. Daniel Tosh: Network Responds To Tosh's Accusations Of Segment Stealing [VIDEO]

Comedian and Comedy Central TV host Daniel Tosh is not happy with the Worldwide Leader in Sports.

In a recent episode of his widely popular Tosh.0 series, the comedian took ESPN to task for what he felt was basically an act of creative plagiarism. ESPN's flagship news program SportsCenter had recently introduced a video series called "Awesome Video Segment," in which figures from around the sports world would be given a second chance to correct recent gaffes and foibles that earned them attention in the first place.

If you think that bit sounds wildly similar to Tosh's own "Web Redemption" series, you're not alone -- Tosh himself agrees. Tosh called out the network for ripping him off, before launching into a pre-taped segment that tore apart basically everything the network is famous for. Nothing was held sacred. Their coverage of the NFL, Bill Simmons' recent suspension, Chris Berman's two minute drill -- all were fodder for Tosh's acid tongue.

Tosh was particularly incensed that the "Awesome Video Segment" had even gone so far as to crib his signature phrase, "Are you willing to give it another shot?"

Today representatives from ESPN have responded to Tosh's original accusations, telling TMZ Sports that using Tosh's slogan "was more of an instance of us using a common phrase than it was copying his wording," adding, "We know that doesn't sound like the strongest explanation yet it’s the truth."

However, the network also made it clear that they have no plans to cancel their series in the wake of Tosh's derisive comments. "We are looking forward to ‘giving it another shot’ in future installments of 'The Awesome Video Segment,'" they told TMZ.
