Montreal Canadiens Injuries: Captain Brain Gionta Out For Season Due To Injury.

Montreal Canadiens captain Gionta is set to have bicep surgery and will miss the rest of the postseason. The Canadiens announced on Wednesday that Gionta will undergo surgey on Friday.

Gionta sat out Games 2 and 4 of a first round playoff series against the Ottawa Senators with what the team called an upper body injury. The right-winger was limited to 31 games last season due to a torn bicep that also required surgery.

Ottawa leads the best-of-seven series with a 3-1 advantage; Game 5 will be played on Thursday in Montreal.

The Canadiens were able to pull center Lars Eller back into the rink, after he suffered a concussion in Game 1 and was taken off the ice in stretcher. As a result of the injury defenseman Eric Gryba was suspended for two games.

Also to add the to the injury problems suffered by Montreal, coach Michel Therrien said forwards Brandon Prust and Ryan White would both sit out Game 5 with upper body injuries.

Goalie Carey Price is considered day-to-day with lower body injuries. Price was hurt late in the third period Tuesday night and was replaced with Peter Budaj for the extra period.
