With CM Punk blasting the WWE and saying he is done with the company on Colt Cabana's Art of Wrestling podcast, TNA president Dixie Carter recently addressed the possibility of the "Best in the World" working for TNA and discussed other topics.
TNA is set to embark on a new chapter as its flagship show Impact Wrestling is set to emanate on its new network home of Destination America next month after spending years on Spike TV and could use a big splash like singing Punk to draw interest.
TNA has denied in the past that it offered Punk a lucrative deal, and it would be hard to reel him in after he pretty much swore off wrestling on Cabana's podcast.
Carter spoke with The Independent and gave her thoughts on Punk possibly working for TNA, saying that she would only ask him to come aboard if he wanted to wrestle again.
"CM Punk's in a place right now where he's happy and I wouldn't attempt to try to get him to come wrestle for us until he's in a place where he wants to wrestle," Carter told the publication. "I respect what he's done so much, he was in my opinion at the top of his game, and it's hard walking away from a big paycheck, but he did it. You wouldn't want to ask him to walk to a new paycheck until his head is in the right place."
Carter also shared her thoughts on Vince Russo, who the company has had a very up-and-down relationship with in the past.
"I'm a big Vince Russo fan, I think he's very talented, I think he gets a bad rap, but I feel like the way everything played itself out, when I'm negotiating a business deal and it's private, you have to keep certain things confidential whether it's a new signing, or how your creative is going," Carter said. "All things are critical to the right element, and things were getting out concerning his involvement, and it was becoming a distraction. I think he's incredibly talented, I really do, but it's like when you have a football player on your team, and that player is getting a certain amount of attention and distraction, he may be a very good player but you've got to ask yourself if it's the right thing for where you're at right now, and if you're trying to create a certain kind of locker room of peace, we were right in the middle of very important stuff, and we didn't need that."
She added: "I'm a fan but it wasn't the time to take it to another level. Vince has worked with us three different times, and the one thing I've learned in wrestling is that you never say never and I'll never say never on Vince [coming back to TNA]."
Lastly, Carter talked about the talent roster driving TNA into its new network home.
"We have a tremendous roster that has come on so strongly, it takes a lot of time to build a new character on television, and I think we have broken more new talent on television over the past 14 months than we have in five or six years maybe," she said. "We've got some exciting storylines planned, and we have our eye on a handful of talent that I think might compliment that."
