The WWE presented the fourth-ever NXT Takeover special and at the end of NXT Takeover: R Evolution at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Fla., there is a new NXT Heavyweight Champion as Sami Zayn defeated Adrian Neville.
Zayn, who had his NXT career on the line, hit the Helluva Kick on Neville to win a back-and-forth match that featured several near falls and false finishes.
While Neville was unsuccessful in his title defense, two champions held onto their belts as The Lucha Dragons successfully defended their NXT Tag Team Championships and Charlotte was also successful in her defense of the NXT Women's Championship.
The Lucha Dragons topped The Ascension after Kalisto hit the Salida del Sol on Aiden to pick up the victory for his team. Charlotte, meanwhile, hit the Natural Selection off of the ropes to defeat Sasha Banks and leave with her gold.
In other tag team action, Finn Balor and Hideo Itami overcame The Ascension after Balor and Itami each hit top rope double footstomps on Konnor and Viktor and covered simultaneously to pick up the victory.
Kevin Owens made his NXT debut in the opening contest and defeated CJ Parker following a pumphandle slam and a pop up powerbomb. Elsewhere, Baron Corbin quickly disposed of Tye Dillinger with a kick to the face followed by the End of Days.
Roman Reigns also cut a promo at the event where he said he'll be the first NXT alum to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and he also hyped the main event and winning the Superstar of the Year Award at the Slammy Awards.
