Georgia in particular has had a rockier season than its 9-3 record and No. 13 ranking would initially indicate. They lost superstar running back Todd Gurley not once, but twice in 2014, the first time to an NCAA violation and then the second to a season-ending ACL injury.
Moreover, they had to sit and watch the Missouri Tigers -- a team they stomped 34-0 on the road -- represent the SEC East in the conference championship game, because of unlikely losses to South Carolina and Florida. They also lost to in-state out-of-conference rival Georgia Tech in the final week of their regular season. Suffice to say the Bulldogs are going to enter this game with a lot of pent-up energy as they attempt to salvage their season and reach that respectable double digit win total.
Louisville is going to make them earn it, though. In their first year in the ACC the Cardinals won five games in-conference and nearly toppled undefeated Florida State in October. Louisville often relies on their defense to set up good offensive opportunities -- they have forced at least one interception in every game they've played this season.
Georgia entered the season thinking they could be playing in the FBS' inaugural Final Four playoff system. Louisville entered the season just hoping to give teams a challenge. The Cardinals are excited to be in the Belk Bowl, while the Bulldogs secretly probably see it as a disappointing destination. The play on the field Tuesday night will reflect that.
