New York Jets Head Coach Candidates: Gary Kubiak, Tom Cable Could Replace Rex Ryan [VIDEO]

The New York Jets are wasting no time in their attempts to fill their head coaching vacancy.

Rex Ryan Clears Out His Office

Just one day after giving Rex Ryan his pink slip following a disappointing 4-12 season, the team has moved forward with a shortlist of five candidates to succeed him.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Jets will be setting up interviews with with Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, Seattle assistant head coach Tom Cable, Ravens offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, Chargers offensive coordinator Frank Reich and Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.

Of the five, Kubiak and Cable are the two with previous head coaching experience. Kubiak was 61-64 in eight years at the helm of the Houston Texans, making back-to-back playoff appearances in 2011 and 2012. Cable was 17-27 in three colorful years in Oakland.

Rex Ryan Says He'll Win a Super Bowl Someday

Whoever inherits the Gang Green job following Ryan's departure will be taking on a unit that's dominant on the defensive side of the ball but severely lacking in offensive efficiency in recent years. For that reason, offensive-minded candidates like Kubiak and the Chargers' Reich may have the inside track to the position.
