WWE Rumors: Sheamus Turning Heel? Backstage News on the 'Celtic Warrior' Changing His Character When He Returns [VIDEO]

With the WWE lacking on main heels lately, it appears as though Sheamus may be turned into a villain upon his return to the company heading into WrestleMania 31 season.

Randy Orton Set To Undergo Minor Surgery

Wrestlingheadlines.com reports that there has been a lot of speculation in the WWE that the "Celtic Warrior" may not be billed as a face when he returns, which could possibly be as soon as the Royal Rumble on Jan. 25 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

Sheamus noted on Twitter that he is heading back to America after being at home in Ireland for the holidays as he recovered from surgery he underwent at the end of November.

Possible Impact of Daniel Bryan's Return on Roman Reigns

There is no word on what procedure Sheamus underwent, but the WWE wrote him off by having Rusev and Mark Henry give him a beat down to get him off of television.

WWE.com gave a storyline update that he sustained "a left cervical neurapraxia (stinger in arm), bone spurring, narrowing of the spinal canal (spinal stenosis) and narrowing of the nerve canals (neuroforaminal) along with nerve compression in his neck."

Sheamus dropped the United States Championship to Rusev on a special match that aired on the WWE Network following Monday Night RAW on Nov. 3.

It's unknown how Sheamus will be pushed as a heel due to two other villains beating him down to write him off of television, but there are rumors that he will not be a face when he returns.

The WWE's main heel full-time roster is thin as outside of The Authority, Bray Wyatt, Seth Rollins and The Big Show, there aren't many foils for guys like John Cena, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, Ryback and the returning Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton.

Due to the lack of heels, it makes sense that the WWE would want to turn Sheamus, though it remains to be seen if they will pull the trigger on it.

Sheamus' plans for WrestleMania 31 on March 29 at Levi's Stadium in California aren't known just yet.

The main rumored matches for the "Show of Shows" thus far include Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Cena vs. Rusev, The Undertaker vs. Wyatt and Triple H vs. "The Vigilante" Sting.

It remains to be seen when Sheamus will be back, but it appears likely the WWE is turning the "Celtic Warrior" heel.
