Michael Sam made headlines when he became the first openly gay player to be drafted into the NFL, and if he gets another shot with a team, he can make more headlines to be the first NFL player married to another man. News broke this week that Michael Sam has gotten engaged.

Sam came out following his final year at Missouri and began breaking barriers in the NFL when he got drafted. When his name was called during the seventh round, television cameras captured the moment, and he celebrated the news by kissing his boyfriend, whose name is Vito Cammisano.
Now, according to TMZ, the two have gotten engaged. Apparently the two were vacationing in Europe when one of them (it is unclear exactly who asked who) popped the question. One of Vito's friends that was on the swim team with him at the University of Missouri is already congratulating the couple.

Sam has previously discussed his relationship with Vito in glowing terms, and the two are apparently extremely happy together. Cammisano even traveled with Sam as he was trying to make it onto an NFL roster.
Sam was drafted by the St. Louis Rams, but he did not survive the final round of cuts, possibly due to the incredible depth the team has on the defensive line. He was later signed to the Dallas Cowboys practice squad, but he was eventually released by the team. Sam is currently a free agent and free to sign with any team in the leage.
