The furor continues over the lightning rod that is backup and out-of-work quarterback Tim Tebow, not that he's happy about it.
A source close to Tebow told USA Today that Tebow is adamant about finding work in the NFL, contrary to an ESPN the Magazine report, in which other members associated with Tebow said the mercurial former Denver Bronco and New York Jet has given up on getting on an NFL roster.
USA Today said its source spoke on the condition of anonymity because Tebow is trying not to bring more attention to himself. Part of the magazine report cited Tebow's accidental ability to steal headlines as a big reason NFL teams are hesitant to contact him.
"He's not a quarterback," an NFL scout told ESPN." When you look at his run two years ago, when you watch the tape and break it down, he wasn't really doing anything that impressive. He's a tough guy, a great leader, a great person. But he isn't a good enough quarterback to have all the distractions that come with him."
CBSSports.com is reporting that Tebow is staying out of news cycles because his handlers believe his NFL career is over.
The Broncos traded Tebow and a seventh-round pick to the Jets for $2.5 million in 2012. Tebow had just led Denver to the postseason and a playoff victory over the Pittburgh Steelers, but the Broncos acquired Peyton Manning to make Tebow expendable.
His stay in New York fizzled as he never started a game in 2012. The Jets cut him on April 29, immediately after selecting quarterback Geno Smith in the draft.
The Jacksonville Jaguars tried to derail the deal between the Jets and Broncos last season, but Tebow's hometown franchise no longer has any interest in the former Heisman Trophy winner from the University of Florida.
Neither does any other NFL team.
But whether Tebow is done remains at issue. With the 2013 season still three months away, Tebow still has time to sign with a team.
