Floyd Mayweather Jr. is in the midst of talks with Manny Pacquiao for a May 2 super fight, but Pacquiao is not planning on waiting forever for "Money" to make his decision.
"My promoter and I, we've already agreed to the terms and conditions of whatever he wants. We're just waiting on the signed contract from him," Pacquiao said. "That's the hard part - if they will fight or not. We have to know soon, because if they will not fight, we can move on and choose another opponent. We have a deadline ... this month."
Pacquiao and Mayweather have danced around a super fight for years, so boxing fans likely wouldn't be shocked if it did not come to fruition. The likelihood of them not reaching a deal is increased now that Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez have broken off talks.
Cotto, who fought Mayweather in 2012, could be a lucrative alternative for Mayweather as the middleweight champion. Cotto's manager Gaby Pengaricano said he harbors no ill will toward Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy for breaking off negotiations, and wouldn't rule out a fight against Mayweather.
"We're perfectly OK with it. It was a good faith try to make the fight and it's an interesting fight and a good fight but Miguel certainly doesn't need it. If the deal is not there, then we're OK with it and if we're not OK with it, then we will not fight," Pengaricano said.
When asked about Mayweather specifically Pengaricano said "There is a possibility.
"I am not sure what the status of the negotiations for that fight [Mayweather-Pacquiao] is or where they are at but anything is possible if we're not fighting Canelo. I mean, we're going to meet with Miguel next week and we're going to go through everything and determine what the options are and we'll go another route."
It appears both of the major fights that appeared to be set for war on May 2 against each other are both in flux. Should Mayweather meet Cotto, Pacquiao could turn to Amir Khan, who has made clear he'd be willing to fight both Pacquiao and Mayweather.
