St. Louis Blues veteran goaltender Martin Brodeur is going to need more time before deciding what the future holds as he contemplates retirement.

Brodeur, 42, took a leave of absence from the Blues last week, but he was expected to return over the last few days. St. Louis revealed in a statement that Brodeur is going to take some time through the All-Star break to ponder what the future holds.
"With the All-Star break already on the way (beginning Thursday), the Blues have given Marty more time to reflect," Brodeur's agent Pat Brisson told ESPN. "Everything should be clearer post All-Star next week."

Brodeur has been on leave since Jan. 14, but with the NHL All-Star Weekend taking place from this Friday-Sunday and games not returning until next Tuesday, the Blues have granted his request.
Brodeur spent his first 20 NHL seasons backstopping the New Jersey Devils, but he became a free agent following the 2013-14 season and didn't fit into his old team's plans.
The three-time Stanley Cup champion then agreed to a tryout with the Blues and eventually signed with St. Louis on Dec. 2, marking the first time he played for another team besides the Devils.
Brodeur was 3-3-0 while appearing in seven games for St. Louis and putting up a 2.87 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage.
The Blues signed Brodeur due to backstop Brian Elliott suffering a groin injury on Nov. 25. Elliott returned from the ailment recently and with him and solid backup Jake Allen in the fold, Brodeur's role was diminished.
After being scratched for five straight games, Brodeur opted to take some time off to mull his future as retirement has become an option for him.
"Brodeur will rejoin the club in one week and his future will be addressed at that time," the Blues said in a statement at the time before the extension was granted.
Brodeur is the winningest goaltender of all time with 691 victories in the crease and has 125 shutouts to go with a career 2.24 GAA and .912 save percentage. The Montreal, Quebec native is a four-time Vezina Trophy winner.
