New York Yankees Rumors: Johan Santana Out For Venezuelan Final With Shoulder Soreness, Affecting MLB Comeback?

The MLB comeback of former two-time AL Cy Young winner Johan Santana may have hit a roadblock after news broke that he will miss the Venezuelan winter league final with soreness in his shoulder.

"A Johan has struggled to recover. Think you can start a meeting is very difficult. The situation we are in is not the best, we have no time to wait for him," Magellan Navigators pitching coach Edwin Hurtado said.

"We have not had the luck we expected. We do not want to risk it. We will not force. It is very difficult to launch in the final."

Santana, who hasn't pitched in the major leagues since 2012, was hoping to launch a comeback this season and has drawn interest from the New York Yankees, according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.

He named the Toronto Blue Jays and San Diego Padres as two of up to six teams that were kicking the tires on the left-hander. With news of shoulder discomfort, however, that will likely scare away most, if not all of his suitors.

Santana missed the 2014 season because of a torn Achilles, not shoulder problems. He missed all of 2013 however because of his second torn capsule in his throwing shoulder. Santana made history in June 2012, authoring the first no-hitter in New York Mets history.

He needed 134 pitches to make that history though, and he 3-7 with an 8.23 ERA over his next 10 starts before being diagnosed with the shoulder injury. Santana first tore the anterior capsule in 2010, and missed the entire 2011 campaign.
