Alex Rodriguez Yankees Feud: Bronx Bombers Trying To Void Home Run Milestone Bonuses [VIDEO]

If anyone thought A-Rod's return to the Yankees in 2015 would be a happy-go-lucky affair, there's a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you.

A-Rod Spending His Off-Season Training With Barry Bonds

First the Yankees front office declined A-Rod's overtures for a reconciliation, following the Biogenesis scandal of 2013. Rodriguez was suspended for the entire 2014 for his prominent role in that controversy and used a "scorched earth" defense strategy in both the courtroom and tabloids against the MLB league office and Yankees brass.

Rodriguez reached out to the Yankees asking to clear the air, but according to the New York Daily News the front office simply responded with "we'll see you in spring training."

Now on Monday the Daily News has also reported that the Yankees are seeking the authority to renege on paying A-Rod a series of upcoming potential bonuses.

Per the terms of his incentivized 2007 contract, Rodriguez is due to receive $6 million for tying Willie Mays' 660 career homer runs (he's six away), and another $6-$18 million should he hypothetically tie Babe Ruth's 714, Hank Aaron's 755, and/or Barry Bonds' 762 home runs. The News reports that "the Yankees will argue that those milestones are no longer valid in terms of marketing deals" thanks to A-Rod's steroid suspension.

If the Yankees pursue this course of action, expect Rodriguez to use every available means, legal or otherwise, to make sure he receives this money should he hit the requisite home runs. And in that event things will get ugly very quickly. “This is a relationship that is never going to be repaired,” one source told the News.
