Real Madrid Transfer Rumors: David De Gea Offered £140,000 Weekly Wages from Manchester United to Block Move to Spain

Real Madrid's pursuit of David De Gea will meet an additional stumbling block, with the Daily Mirror (via Goal Transfer Talk) revealing that Manchester United are prepared to offer the 24-year-old a weekly wage of £140,000 to keep him from returning to his native city.

De Gea is currently on a modest, weekly salary of £70,000.

The raise will do little to prevent Madrid from getting its man according to Mark Ogden of the Telegraph. The club is prepared to test United's resolve over De Gea by waiting to sign him on a free transfer when his contract expires in 2016. Iker Casillas and Keylor Navas are more than capable of filling the role until then and Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is said to be satisfied with his current crop of keepers.

Despite being eliminated from the Copa del Rey, Ancelotti is even prepared to offer his second-choice keeper first-team minutes as the season progresses.

"I am going to keep doing things as I did before the cup," Ancelotti told the Spanish press (via La Nacion). "Every now and then, Keylor will play games as he did before."

Casillas himself mentioned a desire to depart Madrid for Major League Soccer, but failed to mention a timetable for such a historic move. "I have no problem saying that I would like to play in the U.S.," he told the Wall Street Journal. "They are unlikely to be in direct competition with Real Madrid."

What is increasingly likely, however, is for the 33-year-old to be replaced by De Gea in 2016.
