The 28th annual Royal Rumble this past Sunday was controversial in many ways, but unlike the WWE Universe it wasn't the end of the match that had Vince McMahon upset.

Many fans rained boos down on Roman Reigns after he won the Rumble Match from the 19th draw to become the No. 1 contender for Brock Lesnar's WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 31.

This undoubtedly had to make McMahon and the WWE officials upset, but the WWE chairman was angry over something else following the Rumble event.

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, there were plans for Titus O'Neil to be tossed out of the match in one second to tie Santino Marella, but the spot was botched.

O'Neil was set to come into the match and be immediately clotheslined out by Reigns and Dean Ambrose to tie the futility record set by Marella in 2009. There was a timing issue with the spot and O'Neil ended up lasting four seconds before being taken out.

McMahon was said to be furious afterward as it was the only spot in the entire match that had to be timed and it was messed up.

It's uncertain how the mistake occurred, but Marella remains in sole possession of the record for worst Rumble performance after he snapped The Warlord's two-second cameo that occurred in 1989.

The report also states that WWE Superstar Chris Jericho was offered a spot in the Rumble Match as a surprise entrant, but he declined.

Jericho was contacted on Jan. 19 by the WWE to make an appearance in the Rumble Match this past Sunday in Philadelphia, but "Y2J" opted not to partake in it.

Jericho has said in the past that he wants his next return to WWE television to mean something and he doesn't want to make appearances just for the sake of appearing.

The WWE Superstar-turned-Fozzy frontman is currently working with the WWE on a contract through February where he wrestles only house shows and not television or pay-per-view broadcasts as he doesn't want to be on T.V. until a meaningful run is planned out for him.

Jericho said in the past he would not be a part of the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania 31 this year when it emanates on March 29 from Levi's Stadium in California.

The Royal Rumble was controversial in many ways, but the road to WrestleMania 31 is fully underway.
