Monta Ellis Offered 3-Year, $26 Million Contract By Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks have made their top priority of the offseason re-signing shooting guard Monta Ellis. According to the Milwaukee the Bucks have offered Ellis a three-year, $36 million deal.

Ellis holds a player option on his current deal, a six-year contract, and could test free agency if he opts out by June 20. The offer will keep next season's salary the same but will also add $11.8 million for 2014-15 and $13 million for the final year of the proposed deal.

Ellis is set to make $11 million in the final year of his contract he originally signed with the Golden State Warriors, who traded him to the Bucks in March 2012 in exchange for Andrew Bogut and Stephen Jackson.

The 27-year-old shooting guard led the Bucks with 19.2 points per game in the regular season. This was his eighth year in the NBA after being drafted by the Warriors 40th overall in 2005.

Milwaukee reached the postseason for the first time in three years, but will not bring back coach Jim Boylan after the early first-round exit to the Heat and the losing-streak that dropped them to the eighth and final playoff seed.

Ellis won the NBA Most Improved Player award in 2007 and was named Parade Magazine High School Player of the Year in 2005 (along with Greg Oden) and a USA Today All-American. He had originally committed to Mississippi State University before opting for the NBA in 2005. He was one of the last high school prospects eligible to be drafted before the NBA switched the rules of draft eligibility.
