Could Doc Rivers, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce All End Up In L.A.?

Rumors are growing that the Boston trio of coach Doc Rivers and forwards Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce may be open to the prospect of teaming up as members of the Los Angeles Clippers.

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, “there is a “rising belief” the trio believes the Celtics may not be in a position to compete for a NBA title anytime soon and their best opportunity for doing so they may now lie in a L.A. type reunion.

An L.A. native, Pierce is set to become a free agent this off-season, and many signs point to the Celts not bringing him back, instead opting to rebuild around a core of Rajon Rondo, Jeff Green, Avery Bradley and Jared Sullinger.

ESPN reports that idea doesn’t sit well with either Rivers or Garnett, both of whom remain driven by the thought of winning now, particularly Garnett, who has hinted at retirement more than a few times in recent years.

Stein adds the Clips seem warm to the idea, most notably because it gives the team a chance to add quality depth without having to part ways with such young talent as on-the-rise forward Blake Griffin.

As for Rivers, after parting ways with Coach Vinny del Negro, the Clips seem intrigued by the idea of having a voice as respected as Rivers’ guiding such young stars as Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan and Eric Bledsoe.

Additionally, management also feels such a coup could a long way in enticing star guard Chris Paul back into the fold. A free agent, Paul is rumored to be considering teaming up with fellow free agent Dwight Howard in either Atlanta or Houston.
