SNL 40 Rumors: Jay Z Mistakes Yankees' David Wells For Curt Schilling? [VIDEO]

The sports industry and the entertainment industry overlap with each other all the time, and the connections are only becoming more intertwined. One of the reasons it keeps happening is because many celebrities are huge sports fans, and they are always looking for ways to get closer to the action.

Perhaps no entertainer takes this farther than Jay Z, who is a huge sports fan, part owner of the Brooklyn Nets, and has started his own sports agency to represent athletes. Jay Z is also a big fan of all things New York, and it came as quite a surprise when he committed a pretty huge blunder for an alleged superfan when talking to a famous Yankees player.

After the SNL 40 show, there was an after party with many famous names in attendance, including several former players from the New York Yankees. Jay Z is a longtime Yankees fan, and he made a rookie mistake by mistaking the identity of David Wells, a former Yankees pitcher.

The mere fact that he misidentified Wells would have been bad enough, but unfortunately, he happened to confuse Wells with Curt Schilling. It was Schilling who teamed with Randy Johnson to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a World Series win over the Yankees in 2001, and Schilling was also a part of the 2004 and 2007 Boston Red Sox championship teams.

The tale was told by former Yankee pitcher David Cone, who was also in attendance. Cone also mentioned that Jay Z even went so far as to ask Wells about the famous "bloody sock" game.

Ouch.

Wells was no slouch on the mound, either. He was a key part of the starting rotation for many great Yankees teams, and he also threw a perfect game during the 1998 season.
