Rugby World Cup 2015: Richie McCaw Hints At Retirement, No Final Decision's Been Made

New Zealand Rugby Union Player Richie McCaw hinted at retirement following the 2015 World Cup in England. The 34-year-old has amassed over 130 caps for both club and country, but told reporters (via the Sydney Morning Herald) he is leaning toward leaving the game.

"Honestly, I haven't made any final decisions, but probably the likelihood is I am not going to be playing next year," the All Blacks captain said.

McCaw made his Super Rugby debut with the Crusaders in March 2001. Since then, he's featured in 131 competitions, spanning his entire professional career. Though the opportunity is there, McCaw has no intention of leaving the team that ascended his name.

"I am not looking overseas and nothing has changed there, but I don't want to be getting carried away now, talking about those sorts of things when I am focusing on playing," he added. "I want to really enjoy this year, but as I say, that's the likelihood and I don't want to make any big announcements because I don't think that would be right going into a season."

The same cannot be said for a few of McCaw's teammates.

Conrad Smith signed a two-year deal with French second division leaders Pau. Ma' Nonu made a similar jump, playing two season at champions Toulon.

The 2015 Rugby World Cup will begin on Sept. 18 and will run to Oct. 31. New Zealand, one of the favorites of the tournament, will compete in a single round-robin against Pool C opponents Argentina, Tonga, Georgia and Namibia.
