The WWE announced Thursday night that it has parted ways with Superstar Rey Mysterio after a 13-year relationship with each other.

Mysterio ends his WWE tenure as a three-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion and Cruiserweight Champion, two-time Intercontinental Champion and four-time Tag Team Champion after a lengthy tenure in the WWE following WCW going under in 2001.

The WWE moved Mysterio to the alumni section on Thursday and wrote the following statement on WWE.com:

"Rey Mysterio is no longer under contract with WWE."

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, Mysterio's contract expired and was not renewed by the WWE.

There were previous rumor that Mysterio was upset that the WWE automatically renewed his deal due to all of the injuries he had over the years causing him to miss a lot of time, and while that may be true, the company has opted to part ways with him.

Mysterio is expected to sign on with Lucha Underground, but nothing has been confirmed yet and he is unlikely to wrestle right away. He is also expected to appear at AAA's Rey de Reyes event on March 15.

In honor of Mysterio's WWE tenure coming to an end, here is a look at his three best moments in the company.

3) Mysterio and Edge Steal the Show: During 2002, Paul Heyman was in charge of booking the SmackDown brand and started utilizing the "SmackDown Six" to make the show stronger. The six Superstars included Mysterio, Edge, Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero and Chavo Guerrero.

The six Superstars engaged in various battles over the year 2002 in three-way tag matches and different standard tag team matches involving various combinations of the three teams going head-to-head.

It all started with the creation of the WWE Tag Team Championships on SmackDown, which led to an amazing match in the finals between Mysterio and Edge and the team of Benoit and Angle at No Mercy 2002.

The contest lasted over 22 minutes and was a breath-taking back-and-forth affair, which was eventually won by the Angle and Benoit tandem.

The match was just a prelude to the amazing things the SmackDown Six would go on to do and was voted the 2002 Match of the Year by The Wrestling Observer.

Mysterio and Edge would eventually end up winning the WWE Tag Team Championships on an episode of SmackDown in a two-out-of-three falls match against Angle and Benoit in November.

2) Mysterio Wins the Big One: Smaller guys usually have a tough go of it in the politics-driven world of professional wrestling, but Mysterio defied the odds by capturing the World Heavyweight Championship in 2006.

Mysterio had never won a major World Championship heading into his Triple Threat Match with Kurt Angle and Randy Orton at WrestleMania 22 on April, 2, 2006.

The trio engaged in an entertaining -- albeit short -- match for the gold, and in the end, Mysterio pinned Orton to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for the first time as the ultimate underdog.

1) Rumble Record: The WrestleMania 22 victory wouldn't have been possible if not for Mysterio's unbelievable performance in the 2006 Royal Rumble Match.

Mysterio entered as the No. 2 draw in the match and set a longevity record by lasting 62 minutes and 12 seconds en route to winning the Rumble Match for the only time in his career.

Mysterio eliminated six men and tossed out Orton last to win the bout. He also became the shortest person to ever win the Rumble Match at 5-foot-6.

The Superstar was also just the second person to win the Rumble Match from the No. 2 draw, joining Vince McMahon from the 1999 event and he put together what is arguably the best Rumble Match performance to date.

Mysterio dedicated the match to his fallen friend Eddie Guerrero, who passed away two months prior to the bout in November 2005 and he eventually went on to fulfill his dream by winning gold at WrestleMania 22.

Mysterio had a very memorable run in the WWE since making his debut in July 2002, but now he moves on to the next stage of his career.
