Lolo Jones' Bobsled Video Joke Now Shares Spotlight With Her Media Snub After Fifth-Place Finish on 100-Meter Hurdles at U.S. Track & Field Championships

Lolo Jones could be longing for the days when she was known primarily for being a virgin.

The 30-year-old finished a disappointing fifth in the women's 100-meter hurdles at U.S. Track & Field Championships in her hometown of Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday. Her conduct afterward was equally noteworthy, according to USA Today.

Jones avoided the media after the event, the report said, and when a race official tracked her down, she refused to meet with members of the media.

Jones entered the championships amid controversy surrounding an online video she made about compensation for competing on the USA bobsled team last season. In the video, she is on the phone, supposedly talking to a landlord that she's going to be late on her rent. The camera then focuses on a check for $741.

Initially, she said the video was made in fun, and apologized after receiving criticism from the bobsledding community.

Later, she released a statement through one of her sponsors, Red Bull, indicating that her video was attempting to bring attention to the fact that bobsledders are among the least-paid Olympians.

"I didn't want to offend anyone, and I've always wanted to help out my bobsled teammates," the statement read. "Some of them have debt because they've given their life to the sport. My partner Jazmine and I had to raise money for the bobsled to be funded just to finish the season, because only 2 of the 3 sleds are funded by the team. I can't imagine halfway through my track season having to stop and raise money to finish."

Jones is trying to qualify for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, USA Today reported.

When she arrived in Des Moines for the track and field competition, she told the USA Today that she wants "to make people laugh or inspire them."

She did neither after her event on Saturday, in which she crossed the finish line in 12.55 seconds.

Brianna Rollins won the 100-meter hurdles, setting a U.S. record with a time of 12.26 seconds.
